About Us

Meet our team

I joined the charity in June 2017 and feel privileged to lead such a caring, compassionate organisation.

I have two children both with additional needs, so understand the impact caring can have on loved ones providing care.

I have worked within Health and Social Care for over 20 years and spend much of my time in management and senior roles to implement positive change.

I am passionate about Hartlepool, ensuring families have the right support at the right time to ensure they can live active, engaging lives.

I have worked within Health and Social Care for over 20 years and spend much of my time in management and senior roles to implement positive change.

I am passionate about Hartlepool, ensuring families have the right support at the right time to ensure they can live active, engaging lives.

My name is Jan Hollis and I am an Information, Advice and Guidance Worker. I joined Hartlepool Carers in January 2008, initially supporting carers into employment, training and volunteering.

My professional background includes twenty years in advertising/marketing and recruitment, and four years as a qualified Job Coach, supporting adults with learning disabilities into employment and training, and supporting their families.

I also have extensive experience of volunteering – assisting to set up and secure Lottery funding for the first local MS Resource Centre, and ongoing fundraising.

I’m passionate about supporting carers – it’s the most rewarding work I’ve done in a long and enjoyable career.

As operations manager I work behind the scenes ensuring day to day activities for both our team and carers runs smoothly.

I am responsible for our teams training and development as well as ensuring they have up to date information to enable them to provide the high standard of support they have become renowned for.

I also try to keep up team morale and ensure we use our team’s resources as effectively as possible to provide the support our community needs. Listening to the needs of carers and implementing plans to ensure those needs are met is vital for the organisation and carers.

But the most enjoyable part of my role is meeting carers and planning activities, events and training they request. Being involved in our community and supporting our carers is such a reward.

I joined Hartlepool Carers in March 2015. my current role is information, Advice and guidance worker & Young Carers Lead.

Growing up as Young Carer the charity supported myself and brother. Now I can share my knowledge and understanding to the young carers I support.

What I love most about my job is running the young carer groups and activities and seeing the young carers have fun.

In my spare time I love nothing better than to spend time with my Golden Labrador Peaches.

I have been with Hartlepool Carers for 5 years and up until June 2021 I was one of six IAG workers, supporting carers with their caring role.

I enjoy running groups to build up rapport with attendees so that if issues arise they feel comfortable in speaking up. I find the job rewarding when I see carers have the weight lifted off their shoulders.

I am educated to degree level and previous experience includes working as a college mentor. I am a parent to two girls.

In June 2021 I took on the new challenge of becoming a Carer Assessor and am excited for the new challenge.

I was a carer registered with Hartlepool Carers. My caring role was going to change and I was going to become an ex carer.  I enrolled on a Business Administration course and needed a volunteering role to be able to complete my course.

I approached Hartlepool Carers and they supported me to have a volunteering position within Hartlepool Carers covering reception and also completing admin tasks in January 2015.

During my time in 2015 volunteering, I changed the direction of what I wanted to do as a career following seeing all the amazing work that Hartlepool Carers do in supporting carers, this is what I wanted to do myself in the future, enabling me to work and support some truly inspirational Carers.

In April 2016, I was very pleased to secure a job opportunity within Hartlepool Carers supporting families who have children with additional needs going through the process of getting an EHC Plan.

In June 2018, I then moved to a new job role as an Information, Advice and Guidance Worker. My main role within my work, is to make the first contact with carers who newly register with Hartlepool Carers and have a chat about their caring role and how we are able to offer support.

I feel very lucky that I am able to work with very inspirational people. My aim is to offer a friendly welcoming approach to all unpaid carers in Hartlepool and ensure they feel fully supported within their caring role.

My name is Julie, I was appointed in June and took up the post of receptionist/administrator with Hartlepool Carers in July 2016.

I originally come from Heartbeat Country (a small hamlet called Esk Valley which nestles in a valley between Grosmont and Goathland in the North Yorkshire Moors) and I came to live in Hartlepool in 1980.

I have had various jobs, for the past 20 years I have worked in the charity sector, in the roles of receptionist, senior administrator.  My last role was as a PA to two directors of service, the charity supported service users with learning disabilities/mental health issues both in the community and in their homes/supported living.

I enjoy my job very much and feel I that my knowledge and skills are put to good use helping the carers of Hartlepool.

I joined Hartlepool Carers as a Carer Assessor in May 2021, after four years working for the NHS 111 service.

I have always had a passion for supporting carers and actively try to make a difference to people’s lives.

Over the last 2 years, I have been studying a Master’s in Dementia as part of this I was involved in a memory café, which enabled me to focus on supporting the families and carers of people living with dementia.

I am looking forward to sharing my current knowledge and using this in my new position working in the community supporting carers.

Having worked in community pharmacy for over 7 years as a dispenser and healthy living leader I was delighted to take up the role of parent/carer link worker within Hartlepool Carers. I have a passion for my local community, I would like to make a difference in peoples lives and give them the resources they need to live a full and engaging life.

I cannot wait to get started in my new position and get out into the community and meet with families.

I’m very excited to be part of such an amazing team at Hartlepool carers to support Carers in my now home town.

Growing up as Young Carer and still continuing providing support to my family. I can share my knowledge and understanding .

Coming from working in Residential Children’s Care. I’m ready for a new challenge and use my skills to support and guide Carers here in Hartlepool.

In my spare time, you will find me in the park or beach walking my golden Labrador Charlie. I also entertain guests at weddings and parties with photo-booths.

I look forward to meeting you all, if you see me come and say Hi.

I have worked within a Care sector in many different aspects for over 10 years and have been familiar with Hartlepool Carers and the brilliant work they do through my other job as a Personal Care Assistant – Through that role caring for a family member I attended many of the fun events and met a lot of the staff too and saw firsthand all the time, effort and experience that the staff put into supporting the people within Hartlepool.

It wasn’t until July 2023 that I started working for Hartlepool Carers as a Support Officer. My role includes working across a few different avenues such as Young Carers, Hub Support and Administration as well as other events. I feel so privileged to work alongside all the brilliant ladies here at Hartlepool Carers – Seeing the work they all do and now getting to work here alongside them all is something I feel so lucky to be a part of. They have supported and helped my family in so many ways and now working here I hope that I get to do the same for the people of Hartlepool.

I can’t wait to get further involved in all aspects of Hartlepool Carers and continue to see and be a part of all the great work they do and meet all the wonderful people involved in making Hartlepool Carers what it is. I am excited to meet people from other services that work in tandem with ours and meet everyone who uses our service too. I hope I can help in some small way to support Hartlepool Carers make a difference within the community and to the lives of the people that need it most.

In memory of Ruby Marshall MBE

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our Chair Ruby Marshall MBE on 10th April 2020.

As many of you may know she had a long, successful career in Social Care, and sat on many boards, including ours, as well as being a founding member of NESCHA.

Ruby’s wealth of knowledge and passion for ensuring carers voices are heard will be greatly missed by the board, members of our team and every agency, authority and organisation in Hartlepool and the wider community and country.

Ruby had been with Hartlepool Carers for over 15 years, she helped to steer the board and the charity in the right direction, ensuring we worked for you, our unpaid carers, and ensuring we did the best possible for you. She appointed our current CEO and together they made Carers what it is today.

Our motto is ‘because we care’, I can safely say that she cared… a great deal.

We will miss you greatly Ruby, you will have a place in our hearts forever and always, your compassion and caring nature will live on through the work we do here.
