Hartlepool Carers to publish book – how you can be involved

Have you ever dreamt of being a published author or poet?

Now’s your chance! Last week, speaking with our awesome young carers, they mentioned that they would like to do a creative writing project. We straight away got in contact with one of our carers, Janet, who came up with a brilliant suggestion – why not write a book?!

So, what we are asking for is carers of any age to submit a poem, or short story (fact or fiction) about what it’s like to be a carer, putting your own unique spin on it. These will all be edited and put together in an anthology which we will hopefully publish and sell with any proceeds going to Hartlepool Carers.

Poetry can be really emotive or fun. Fiction is great because you get to use your imagination. The non-fiction could be tips, self-help, or self-care pieces. You can work alone or with a friend/group (socially distanced of course!)

We will be running some online sessions with our young carers to support them in their writing, and could do something similar with adults if there was enough interest.

Submissions should be sent to sarah.rowntree@hartlepoolcarers.org.uk. One per person please! Closing date for submissions is 31st October 2020 which will hopefully give you plenty of time to come up with some brilliant ideas.
