About Volunteering

Volunteers make a valuable contribution to Hartlepool Carers. They play a distinctive and complementary role alongside paid staff by undertaking activities for the benefit of carers and their relatives. Our volunteers reflect the interests, needs and resources of the community we aim to support and bring a unique perspective to our work. Volunteers give their time to develop a range of support that could not be provided solely by staff. The relationship between volunteers and the people they help support may also be more relaxed and informal. They may have more flexibility in the type or frequency of activities they can undertake, usually with mutual benefits for all involved.

Who Can Volunteer?

We welcome volunteers of all ages and with a wide variety of life experiences.

Some of our volunteers are retired people simply looking to do something with their spare time while others are keen to gain work experience to help them get paid employment.

Previous experience working in the community or as a carer can be helpful but the main skills we require are reliability, friendliness and patience.

If you can spare us some of your time then we can find a role to suit your experience and interests.

Events Volunteer

Hartlepool Carers have a variety of different events and activities throughout the year which require the help of volunteers, from bag packing and coffee mornings.

Fundraising/Promotions Assistant

Activities include helping with street collections, packing bags for shoppers at supermarkets, running raffles and raising awareness at organised events. You may wish to hold your own event or initiative to raise funds or help raise awareness of our service.

Maintenance/DIY Volunteer (with own tools)

This a great role for a retired joiner/handyman or DIY enthusiast. There are always jobs to be done, such as putting up shelves, refreshing the painting, fixing broken cupboard doors, laying carpets etc. Unfortunately, we don’t have many tools, so someone who could bring their own tools would be most welcome.

Youth Club Volunteer

An extremely rewarding role keeping young carers who attend our groups safe and entertained. This role also involves helping on young carers’ respite trips.

Other roles are also available and can be discussed
