Thanks to the backing of the Tees Valley Community Foundation we are delighted to announce our new initiative – Box Clever.
Box Clever is an exciting new project aimed at providing carers with the skills to cope financially during the Covid-19 pandemic and the aftermath.
We want to increase resilience, strengthen family cohesion and build stronger communities. We must ensure our carers are armed with the knowledge they need, to cope with the challenges that a recovery plan to come out of isolation may bring.
The project will identify carers who may struggle financially in the coming months and aim to upskill and increase knowledge of home budgeting.
We will achieve this by distributing information sheets and dedicated online budgeting and cookery workshops.
We will deliver boxes (Box Clever) containing basic store cupboard ingredients to allow carers to engage with the online cookery workshops. This will allow carers to discover new ways to cook healthily and save money to assist with reduced family finances.
The aim of the sessions will be to engage carers in going back to basics. These are skills that we feel have been lost within our communities. Sessions will be delivered online to encourage our hard to reach, isolated carers to engage in peer to peer support, as well as share tips and advice to ease financial burdens. Carers can also engage in the workshops without accessing the online workshops as all recipes and information sheets will be in their Box Clever parcel.
The sessions we will deliver will incorporate:
budgeting and planning a shopping trip,
cost effective recipes and basic cookery skills,
tips on batch cooking and freezing,
advice on how to reduce Energy bills.
We hope that the box of store cupboard food will initially help a family financially but it is the impact of discovering how to manage family finances better, that will have the lasting impact within the whole family. Parents and carers can then pass on their newly acquired budgeting skills to other family members.
