Blog from the Board – July 2020

Hello, my name is Simon and I care for my father who has dementia as well as helping to care for my grandparents. I moved back from London in 2016 to support my mam.

Being a carer isn’t easy and I fully understand some of the issues you all face within both the community accessing services as well as within the health environment. And understand that everyone’s situations are unique. That is why when asked to become a trustee I jumped at the chance. I’m now Vice Chairman of Hartlepool Carers, and it is a role I hold with passion, and proud to be part of.

As a board we are tasked with ensuring the charity follows it’s guidelines laid out when it was set up, as well as reviewing it’s policies regularly. We are tasked with ensuring all money brought into the charity is spent accordingly and within the guidelines it was requested for. We ensure that the charity runs and is beneficial for all unpaid carers as well as making sure we follow guidelines set out by the Charity Commission and Companies House.

We meet once every 3 months and have a Annual General Meeting every year around October/November. Being on the board is a hard role, but an extremely rewarding one. Every meeting is different and the subjects discussed.

At the end of the day we are here to ensure Hartlepool Carers is here for you always. As Vice Chairman I’m in contact with Christine on a regular basis, supporting and advising where needed and appropriate, I represent the charity at meetings and events, ensuring your voice is heard at higher levels.

I’m always here should you have any questions so please do ask me. On a final note for my first Blog I’d like to thank each and everyone of you for your hard work, determination and love you have showed to those you care for, especially during this difficult time.

A huge massive thank you goes to Christine and her team for the amazing work, support, dedication, and sheer determination to ensure you are still supported. Having been in contact with Christine I’m humbled at what they have been able to achieve.

Massive love from me and a huge thank you from the board.

Stay safe and we are here because we care. Xx
